Allueva
Village
Allueva is a small municipality in the Jiloca comarca, in the province of Teruel, with 31 inhabitants at 1,200 metres above sea level. According to Miguel Asín Palacios, its name comes from the Arabic al-luwaiba(t), “the little stony one”. It lies in the Cañallueva valley, between the Sierra de Cucalón and the Sierra de Pelarda, where the Huerva and Aguas Vivas rivers rise. People from Allueva took part in the Battle of Cutanda in 1120, in which Alfonso I the Battler defeated the Almoravids. In 1248, by privilege of James I, the place broke away from Daroca and joined the Sesma de Barrachina, within the Community of Villages of Daroca, dissolved in 1838. In the town centre stands the parish church dedicated to the Assumption, from the 18th century, with baroque altarpieces from the 17th and 18th centuries.
