What to see and do in Villarquemado

Villarquemado
Village
Villarquemado is a municipality in the Comunidad de Teruel, with 901 inhabitants, at 996 metres above sea level, between the valley of the Jiloca river to the west and the first foothills of the Sierra Palomera, part of the Iberian System, to the east. Its name seems to allude to a fire suffered by the settlement, which was previously called Villahermosa or Villanueva de las Tres Torres. On 2 December 1249 King James I signed here the donation of the castles of Santa Eulalia la Mayor, Castel de Cabra and Petrasol in favour of Atho de Foces. In the mid-nineteenth century it had 767 inhabitants.
