What to see and do in Singra

Singra
Village
Singra is a municipality in the Jiloca district, in the province of Teruel, situated at 1,047 metres above sea level next to the sierra de Palomera, with 76 inhabitants. The first documented grant dates from 1128, when Alfonso I gave it, together with Torrelacárcel, to the abbey of Montearagón; in 1248 James I detached it from Daroca to join it to the Sesma del Río Jiloca. It preserves the parish church of the Purificación, Baroque from the 17th century, and the hermitages of San Roque and Santa Bárbara. During the civil war, in January 1938, fierce fighting took place at the site of Los Cabezos, where trenches and shelters are visible today, and there is a mass grave in the cemetery. Its main festivities, in honour of San Roque and San Blas, are on 15 August.
Church of Singra
Monument
The parish church of Singra, dedicated to la Purificación, is a Baroque building from the late 17th century, with construction work documented between 1693 and 1696; it preserves a 16th-century painted altarpiece with scenes from the life of the Virgin and the Passion, the altarpiece of the Rosario — a fine example of Romanist sculpture from the Daroca workshops — and the altar of San Bruno.
