What to see and do in Estadilla

Estadilla
Village
Estadilla is a town at the eastern end of the comarca of Somontano de Barbastro, in the province of Huesca, south of the sierra de la Carrodilla, with 826 inhabitants and a medieval urban layout, with narrow alleys sheltered by the peña El Castillo, on which stood the castle of the barony of Castro, the town's former lords. It belonged to the county of Ribagorza, of which it was the head of the barony, and received from Sancho Ramírez and his son Pedro I the fueros of Monzón, in order to attract settlers to this frontier town. On the sierra de la Carrodilla, with Neolithic rock paintings in the shelters of the Forau del Cocho, stands the sanctuary of the Virgen de la Carrodilla. Centuries later, José de Calasanz, founder of the Escuelas Pías, studied at the school that existed in the village.
