What to see and do in Poleñino

Poleñino
Village
Poleñino is a municipality in the province of Huesca, in Aragon, with 184 inhabitants (2025 INE) and 33.11 km². It is already mentioned in the year 570, in the will of the deacon Vicente, as Mons Polenaria, near the site of Mondón, occupied in Ibero-Roman and Visigothic times. Abandoned after the arrival of the Muslims, it was resettled in 1107 by Alfonso I the Battler, who according to tradition died in the village in 1134, on the way to Huesca, after being wounded at the siege of Fraga. It preserves the church of the Assumption, from the 12th and 16th centuries, and the palace-house of the viscounts of Torres-Solanot, an enlightened family who held posts at the court of Charles III and Charles IV; the house served as a military hospital for the International Brigades during the Civil War.
