Perarrúa
Village
Perarrúa is a municipality in the province of Huesca, in the Ribagorza comarca, bordered by the Ésera river, a tributary of the Cinca. Between 1062 and 1093 its tenente was Sancho Aznarez I de Bagón, lord also of other nearby localities. Traditionally associated with the timber industry and carpentry — it was the town with the most carpenters in Ribagorza — and with cereal, vine, olive and Bergamot pear crops, it has gone from around 1,030 inhabitants in the mid-19th century to a little over a hundred today. Its patron saint is Santa Ana, a festivity celebrated on 26 July with the patronal festivities, during which the pastorada de Perarrúa is performed, a traditional theatrical dialogue between two shepherds.
Church of Perarrúa
Monument
The parish church of Perarrúa, dedicated to San Martín, was built in 1673 although it has undergone multiple alterations; it has a single nave with a polygonal apse and a tower with an ashlar base and a brick upper section decorated with rejola (thin brick tiles). On the portal, a niche houses a sculpture of San Martín. The municipality also preserves the Romanesque hermitage of San Martín de Perarrúa, with a single nave covered by a barrel vault.
