What to see and do in Lascuarre

Lascuarre
Village
Lascuarre is a municipality of Ribagorza, in the Pre-Pyrenees of Huesca, situated in the lower part of the Isábena valley, on a hill at 647 metres above sea level. In 2020 it had 130 inhabitants, a figure that nearly doubles in summer. In its holm oak groves, black truffle is gathered between December and March with a trained dog. The urban centre, of medieval origin, preserves the church dedicated to the Assumption and remains of the wall of the old fortified Muslim square, whose castle probably stood where the church stands today; together with Laguarres and Castigaleu it formed the first Arab defensive line against the Christians, who founded the bishopric of Roda de Isábena in the 10th century.
Church of Lascuarre
Monument
Church of Santa María la Mayor, under the dedication of la Asunción documented since at least 1400; a 16th-century Gothic church with a Renaissance portal with Corinthian columns, a four-tier tower (the upper two octagonal) topped by a pyramid, and three naves with round arches inside. It stands at the top of the town, next to a rebuilt old abbey.

Food and drink
The holm-oak scrub of the Baja Ribagorza yields black truffle from December to March, gathered with a trained dog; it is grated raw over eggs and meats or preserved in oil and in the comarca's cured sausages.
