Monesma y Cajigar
Village
Monesma y Cajigar is a rural municipality in the south of Ribagorza, in the province of Huesca, situated at the interfluve of the Isábena and Noguera Ribagorzana rivers. It was formed in the 1960s by the merger of the former municipalities of Cajigar —now the capital— and Monesma de Benabarre, whose former capital was Badías. The territory is spread across about ten scattered settlements and hamlets, such as Badías, Chiró, Noguero, Soliveta and La Torre de Monesma. It has 68 inhabitants (INE 2025). Its local festivities are held on 15 August in honour of the Assumption of the Virgin, and the pilgrimage takes place on 28 May.
