What to see and do in Tolva

Tolva
Village
Tolva is a rural municipality in southern Ribagorza, in the province of Huesca, in the middle valley of the Cajigar river, which crosses the municipal area from north to south between the foothills of the Castillo de Laguarres mountain range and the Ciscar gorge. The village sits at the centre of a funnel-shaped depression, or tolva, which gives the place its name; its town arose after the Reconquest and its history remained linked to the county of Ribagorza. Besides the settlement of Tolva, the municipality comprises Almunia de San Lorenzo, Sagarras Bajas and Luzás, whose pentagonal-towered castle, built on the county's defensive line, was restored between 2001 and 2009. From here one can reach the Canelles reservoir and the Mont-rebei gorge, at the foot of the Montsec mountain range.
Church of Tolva
Monument
The church of Santa María del Puy de Tolva, in the Ribagorza comarca of Huesca province, reused ashlar stones from an earlier building in its fabric: according to local history, the carved stones from the gate of Falces castle were later moved and set into the doorway of this church, thus incorporating into the parish church materials from an old fortification of the comarca.
