What to see and do in Tierz

Tierz
Village
Tierz is a municipality in the Hoya de Huesca comarca, in Aragon, located six kilometres east of the Huescan capital, in a plain on the banks of the río Flumen and beneath the hills of the Estrecho Quinto. It is documented from 1093, when Sancho Ramírez made a first donation to the neighbouring monastery of Montearagón, on which it depended for centuries until in 1544 Abbot Juan de Urrea definitively transferred houses and lands to its residents. It kept a population similar to that of the nineteenth century, around 250 inhabitants, until new housing developments doubled it between 2004 and 2006; today it stands at around 820. Within its territory it preserves Civil War trenches, and its town centre is dominated by a large square with the church of la Asunción; the hermitage of los Dolores completes the religious heritage.
