What to see and do in Ribera de Arriba

Ribera de Arriba
Village
Ribera de Arriba is an Asturian concejo located in the valley of the Nalón river, from which it takes its name, seven kilometres from Oviedo, with which it borders along with Mieres, Morcín and Santo Adriano. The Nalón river, which here receives the waters of the Caudal, crosses the territory from east to west, forming a broad valley surrounded by mountains that soften its climate; the highest, the Mandarrón peak, reaches 654 metres. The capital, Soto de Ribera, stands next to the river. Around 2,000 inhabitants now live mainly off industry, which has provided more than 60% of employment since the Soto de Ribera thermal power station came into operation in 1962. In Pereda a Romanesque church endures.
