What to see and do in Losa del Obispo

Losa del Obispo
Village
Losa del Obispo is a Spanish-speaking municipality of the comarca of Los Serranos, in the Valencian interior, built next to a ravine on limestone ground with flat streets; it has 531 inhabitants. Its municipal area holds one of the most important sites of the Valencian Bronze Age, the settlement of la Atalayuela, excavated in 1946, where a halberd, a dagger and copper arrowheads were found; from the Roman period remain the ruins of a rural villa at the Hoya de Gurrea. Born during the Reconquest, the first documentary records date from 1271, when James I gave these lands, together with those of Chulilla and Villar del Arzobispo, to the archbishopric of Valencia. It preserves a 16th-century parish church and a 19th-century chapel topped with a dome of blue tiles.

Archaeological site of la Atalayuela
Nature
Archaeological site located on Mount Atalayuela, a pointed hill in the municipality of Losa del Obispo, in the Los Serranos region, on whose upper part a Bronze Age settlement was excavated in 1946. The excavation brought to light a copper axe and dagger, several leaf-shaped arrowheads and abundant fragments of undecorated pottery, all typical of the Bronze Age. In the nearby Collado de la Horca, ceramic remains from the same period have been recovered, pointing to a wider prehistoric settlement in the area.
