What to see and do in Alberic

Alberic
Village
Municipality of La Ribera Alta, in the province of Valencia, located 46 kilometres from the capital, on the plain between the river Júcar and the Acequia Real, in a comarca whose citrus calendar closes with late-harvest orange varieties that packing warehouses process from October to May. After the reconquest, in October 1238, James I incorporated the place into his territories, keeping the Muslim population and granting the lordship to Lope Ferreinch de Lurcenich; this later passed to Jaume de Romaní, beheaded after rising up against Peter IV. It retains a convent from the late 17th century next to the 18th-century hermitage of Santa Bárbara, and houses a museum devoted to Valencian pilota. Its official name in Valencian is Alberic, and it has 11,099 inhabitants (INE, 2025).
Festivities of Alberic
Activity
Alberic celebrates its patron saint, San Lorenzo, on 10 August, and its patron saint, the Virgen del Rosario, on the first Sunday of October, with a procession; it also celebrates the Virgen de Agosto on the 15th.
Museum of la Pilota Valenciana de Alberic
Monument
A space devoted to one of the most important traditional sports of the Comunitat Valenciana, with displays on its history, equipment and trophies.
Convent of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles de Alberic
Monument
Former late-17th-century convent located on the plaza del Maestro Albuixech in Alberic (Valencia), a Bien de Relevancia Local (a local-level heritage protection designation used in the Comunitat Valenciana), built in 1701 to house a community of Capuchin Franciscan friars minor of the Order of Saint Francis, who lived there until the disentailment of 1835. Its founding required a royal dispensation, since the minimum distance required between religious houses was not met between Alberic and the convent of La Alcudia; the community, never very large, usually numbered five or six friars. After the secularisation of the religious houses, the building was successively used as a primary school, a music academy, a prisoners' depot, a Guardia Civil barracks and a theatre-casino. Today only the church survives; it no longer holds services and is being adapted as a cultural space, next to the 18th-century Ermita de Santa Bárbara, within Alberic's historic heritage complex.
Late oranges of the Ribera
Food and drink
The comarca's citrus calendar closes with late-harvest varieties that make it possible to bring fresh oranges to market until well into the spring. The packing warehouses of the area handle the fruit from October to May.
