Llocnou d'En Fenollet
Village
Llocnou d'En Fenollet, formerly officially called Lugar Nuevo de Fenollet, is one of the smallest municipalities of the district of La Costera, in the province of Valencia, situated on flat ground between the hill of Peñal Puig and the river Manuel. The present-day population, whose name comes from Raimon de Fenollet, lord of the place in 1374, was founded in the early 17th century by Miguel de Fenollet after the expulsion of the Moriscos, and resettled in 1611 with barely 19 houses; by 1794 it already had 28. Rice growing, the basis of its economy in past centuries, was replaced by orange trees and intensive market gardening in the early 20th century. It has 944 inhabitants today and celebrates its patronal festivals in honour of Sant Dídac, la Verge dels Dolors and el Cor de Jesús.
