Tales
Village
Tales is a municipality in the province of Castellón, in the comarca of La Plana Baixa, situated on the slope of a small mountain on the banks of the Veo river, in the valley formed by the last foothills of the Sierra de Espadán, at 242 metres above sea level. Predominantly Valencian-speaking, it has 827 inhabitants and a municipal area covered largely by pine, cork oak, gall oak and holm oak woods. Its streets, winding, steep and cobbled, narrow as they climb toward the castle, atop the hill. Between 1 and 14 August 1839, during the Carlist Wars, the castle and the town were destroyed after a siege by 18,000 men in which General O'Donnell defeated Cabrera's troops.
