Higueras
Village
Higueras is one of the smallest municipalities in the Alto Palancia comarca, in the province of Castellón, located on the western slope of the sierra de Espadán, within whose natural park it lies, among peaks such as la Elvira or la Pedriza, from which the Mediterranean can be seen. Known in Muslim times as Torre de la Higuera, it was conquered by James I in 1236 and given to the bishop of Segorbe; in 1248 its Muslim inhabitants supported the revolt of Al Azraq. In 1368 it became a fief of the Bishopric of Segorbe. The municipality, Spanish-speaking and rich in springs of great ecological value, today has 54 inhabitants.
