What to see and do in Castillo de Villamalefa

Castillo de Villamalefa
Village
Castillo de Villamalefa is a mountain municipality of the Alto Mijares comarca, in the province of Castellón, next to the Peñagolosa peak and surrounded by pine forests and holm oaks, with the río Villahermosa flowing through it. It belonged to Zayd Abu Zayd, the last Almohad governor of the Kingdom of Valencia, whose wife lived in nearby Cedramán; after the Reconquest it formed part of the barony of Arenoso, granted in 1242, and later of the ducal house of Gandía. It has 110 inhabitants. Its parish church, dedicated to Saint Peter the Apostle, is Romanesque and has been recently restored; it holds a 15th-century processional cross. At the site known as El Chorrador, a waterfall forms a pool of turquoise water when the flow is abundant.
