What to see and do in Benimarfull

Benimarfull
Village
Benimarfull, at the heart of the valley of Travadell, is a municipality in the province of Alicante, in the comarca of the Comtat, beside the road that crosses the Vall de Gallinera, known as the valley of the cherries, between Alfafara, Pego and Vergel. It has 465 inhabitants. Its name, of Arabic origin, would mean 'son of the bitter spring'; after the expulsion of the Moriscos in 1609 the village was left depopulated and was resettled by four Christian families from Lorcha, who received a settlement charter from the Marquis of Guadalest in 1611. It preserves the church of Santa Ana, a 16th-century parish church surrounded by cherry and almond trees, crops protected by the designations of origin Montaña de Alicante and Aceite Mariola.
