What to see and do in San Isidro

San Isidro
Village
San Isidro is a municipality in the Vega Baja del Segura, in the south of the province of Alicante, with 2,337 Spanish-speaking inhabitants. Its origin goes back to the agricultural colonization projects of the Instituto Nacional de Colonización in the 1950s, in the midst of the Franco dictatorship: from 1952 the surrounding salt marshes were transformed into irrigated land according to the project of the architect Fernández del Amo, and in 1956 housing and plots of land began to be handed over to the new residents. It depended on Albatera, as San Isidro de Albatera, until becoming independent in 1993, which makes it the youngest municipality in the province. It stretches between the sierra de Albatera and the huerta of Orihuela, with a considerable palm grove and the cabezo Pardo next to the town centre.
