What to see and do in Aldea del Fresno

Aldea del Fresno
Village
Aldea del Fresno is a town in the Community of Madrid, the lowest municipality in the community, at 476 metres, built where the río Perales flows into the Alberche, among holm oak groves and riverside woods of alders, ash trees and poplars. Of Ibero-Roman origin, it was occupied by the legions of Augustus in the 1st century and was destroyed in the late Middle Ages; after the Reconquista it was part of the sexmo of Casarrubios, and in 1627 it passed to Catalina de Mendoza, Marchioness of la Fresneda and Lady of Fresno. It preserves the church of San Pedro Apóstol, from the 18th century, the hermitage of San Polo, from the 17th century, and an old waterwheel of Arab origin. On the El Rincón estate is the Safari Madrid, in whose promotion the naturalist Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente collaborated between 1978 and 1979. It has about 3,500 inhabitants.
