Becerril de la Sierra
Village
Becerril de la Sierra is a village in the Community of Madrid, 50 kilometres from the capital, within the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares regional park, at 1,075 metres above sea level. Its origin lies in the Reconquista, between the 12th and 13th centuries; the territory first belonged to the Sexmo de Manzanares, and in 1249 the place is mentioned for the first time in a charter in which Ferdinand III fixed the border between Madrid and Segovia. The first documentary mention of Becerril dates from 1385, and in 1636 it was declared a town, confirmed in 1658 by the Duke of Infantado. Its first residents lived from farming, shepherding and livestock raising. It now has about 6,700 inhabitants, and its church of San Andrés Apóstol is Baroque.

Monument
Begun in the 16th century and completed in 1609, the date displayed on its façade, it mixes rural Baroque with Herrerian echoes; notable features are the portico of Tuscan columns sheltering the atrium and the tower of three sections separated by cornices.
