What to see and do in Alcobendas

Alcobendas
Village
Alcobendas is a city of about 123,000 inhabitants located 15 km north of Madrid, at 669 metres of altitude, with which it forms an urban continuum together with Pozuelo de Alarcón, Majadahonda and Coslada; it also borders San Sebastián de los Reyes and Paracuellos de Jarama. Its name already appears documented in 1208, when Alfonso VIII set the boundaries between Madrid and Segovia. It preserves the parish church of San Pedro Apóstol and celebrates the Virgen de la Paz every 24 January, a devotion documented since the 17th century.
National Museum of Science and Technology of Alcobendas
Monument
The National Museum of Science and Technology (MUNCYT) is a state museum network devoted to the popularisation of science, under the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. Its collection brings together more than fifteen thousand scientific instruments, from the sixteenth century to the present day. The idea of creating it arose in the mid-twentieth century, although it was not formally established until 1980, and it opened its doors for the first time in 1997. It has two sites: the one in La Coruña, from 2012, and the one in Alcobendas, opened on 12 December 2014 in the building designed by Roberto and Esteve Terradas for CosmoCaixa Madrid, until 2013, where it displays more than five hundred pieces from a state collection that exceeds eighteen thousand scientific objects.
Alcobendas Art Centre
Monument
Municipal museum of Alcobendas, the work of architects Fernando Parrilla Villafruela and María Isabel Muñoz Parrilla, designed in 2006 and built on the site where the Casa Municipal de la Cultura and the Universidad Popular de Alcobendas had previously stood. The building, which generates its own energy through solar panels, has nine floors housing exhibition halls, an auditorium, a spacious meeting area and a media library. Opened in 2011, it houses the extensive Colección de Fotografía Alcobendas together with temporary exhibitions of contemporary art.
Parish church of San Pedro Apóstol de Alcobendas
Monument
Parish church in the old quarter of a town already mentioned in 1208, when Alfonso VIII demarcated the districts of Madrid and Segovia; Alcobendas was a village dependent on Madrid until 1369, the year the crown handed it over to Pedro González de Mendoza.
