Sudanell
Village
Sudanell is a municipality of the Lleida market-garden belt, in the Segrià, on the left bank of the Segre and next to the Seròs canal, with 915 inhabitants. It was conquered and resettled by Christians in the mid-12th century, and in 1199 its lordship passed to the Hospitaller order, which kept it well into the 19th century. It lives from irrigated agriculture, especially fruit growing -its presic groc, or yellow peach, is famous- and from the chemical industry. Its parish church of Sant Pere, baroque from the 18th century, is in the Inventory of Architectural Heritage of Catalonia; also preserved are El Muladar and the Creu del Terme. The village keeps a living nativity scene listed in the Generalitat's catalogue of festive heritage, and celebrates its main festival on the first weekend of October.
