Montoliu de Lleida
Village
Montoliu de Lleida is a municipality of the comarca of the Segrià, in the metropolitan area of Lleida, situated at 166 metres above sea level on the banks of the river Segre, between the towns of Albatàrrec and Sudanell. It has population records documented since 1497 and today has 488 inhabitants. Its municipal area, of only 7 square kilometres, is divided between the irrigated lands near the Segre, which receive water from the Urgell canal, and the dry-farmed lands of the partida de Tabac, where archaeological remains of a deserted settlement are preserved. It preserves the church of the Nativitat de Maria and the local tradition of the Bandoler de Cal Carles, a bandit whose legend has been commemorated since 1995 with two giant figures representing the bandit and his sister Ramoneta.
