What to see and do in Tiurana

Tiurana
Village
Tiurana is a municipality in the interior of the Noguera, in the province of Lleida, with barely 69 inhabitants. The old village of Tiurana, whose castle is already documented in 1278 as part of the county of Urgell, was evacuated in 1995 and demolished in 1999 to allow the filling of the Rialb reservoir; the current settlement was built from 2003 next to the sanctuary of the Mare de Déu de Solers and was inaugurated in 2007, inheriting the name of the submerged village. The parish church, dedicated to San Pedro, is in the late Gothic style and was built in 1545, with a bell-gable tower. On the outskirts stands a Romanesque hermitage dedicated to San Ermengol. The main festival is held in September, and the economy is still based on growing wheat, potatoes, alfalfa and vegetables.
