Oliola
Village
Oliola is a municipality scattered across eight settlements in the interior of the Lleida Noguera, with barely 192 inhabitants, colonised in 1035 after the reconquest of 908; its first lord was Pere de Puigverd, and it later belonged to the county of Urgell and to the house of Cardona until the end of the lordships. The village of Oliola is terraced on the hillside below the ruins of its castle, and its church of Sant Tirs, of Romanesque origin, with an apse decorated with Lombard bands and blind arcading, was rebuilt in the 18th century. At El Gos and La Serra de Dalt two other Romanesque churches are preserved, dedicated to San Salvador and Santa María. It lives from dry-farming agriculture, with cereals, vines and olive trees, and from rural tourism.
