What to see and do in Palol de Revardit

Palol de Revardit
Village
A small municipality of the Pla de l'Estany whose castle-palace, already documented in 1076 -the year in which the bishop of Carcassonne, Bernat, died there while Dalmau Gausbert was castellan- retains a Gothic tower and a circular tower of earlier origin; it now serves as a cultural and exhibition centre.
Castle of Palol de Revardit
Monument
A castle-palace documented since 1076, next to the church of Sant Miquel; the Palol lineage held it from the late 11th century. It retains an 11th-12th-century circular tower and a Gothic tower; the municipality acquired it in 2005 and renovated it for public use.
Can Verdera
Monument
Can Verdera, a 16th-17th-century farmhouse situated at La Mota, in the municipality of Palol de Revardit, has almost completely disappeared: today only the barn (pallissa), remains of the perimeter wall of the threshing floor and a well survive, which at the time were laid out in different blocks along the north side of the barn. During the Francoist dictatorship, in the events of la Mota in 1960, in which the maquis fighter Quico Sabarté was killed, the farmhouse served as a command centre and infirmary. It has been listed as a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection) since 1988 (BCIN 1200-MH).
Palol de Revardit Main Festival
Activity
The Sant Miquel festa major, revived in 1979 and celebrated since then every fourth Sunday of September.
Pork and poultry
Food and drink
Pig and poultry farming is one of the comarca's economic pillars and supplies the workshops of the plain with fresh meat and cured sausages; the home pig slaughter still marks the calendar of the farmhouses.
