Pont de Molins
Village
Pont de Molins is a village in the Alt Empordà, in the province of Girona, with 585 inhabitants (INE 2025), crossed by the Muga river and of ancient origin: the settlement of Molins already appears documented in the 10th century as belonging to the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes. It formed part of the municipality of Llers until the 18th century, when its parish church of San Sebastián dates from. It lives from dry farming centred on vines, with a wine cooperative of the DO Empordà. It preserves the three-arched Pont Vell, the sanctuary of Santa Maria del Roure and remains of the castle of Molins, documented since 1125 as a fortress of the county of Besalú. In 1939, during the Republican retreat, colonel Rey d'Harcourt and the bishop of Teruel, Anselmo Polanco, were shot here.
