What to see and do in Ullastrell

Ullastrell
Village
Ullastrell is a municipality of Vallès Occidental (Barcelona), at 342 meters above sea level, beside the Riera de Gaià and on the border with Baix Llobregat. The place-name Ullastrello is already documented in the 13th century, and the first known population figure dates from 1381, with 14 households, around 65 people. During the Middle Ages and the early modern period it was a rural territory of scattered farmsteads, under the jurisdiction of Sant Llorenç del Munt and, from the late 16th century, of the marquises of Castellbell; its economy was based on sweet fruit and vines, until phylloxera ruined the crops and caused heavy emigration to the cities. In 1908 the church of Santa Maria was built, with a modernist bell tower designed by the architect Lluís Muncunill.
