What to see and do in Olvan

Olvan
Village
Olvan is a municipality of the Barcelona Berguedà, with 924 inhabitants and at 553 metres above sea level, next to the river Llobregat. Its parish church was consecrated by the bishop of la Seu d'Urgell, Nantigís, in the year 905; it belonged to the barony of la Portella and, from 1369, to the domains of the Pinós family. The district also preserves the old church of the Cistercian nunnery of Santa María de Valldaura, founded in 1231. Much of the population worked at the factory of the Cal Rosal colony until its closure in 1991, the year in which two other spinning mills also closed; today the economy rests on growing cereals and potatoes and on pig farms. Olvan is also home to the World Centre of the Catalan Donkey, dedicated to the conservation of this breed.
Church of Sant Martí d'Olvan
Monument
Remains of a former church in the municipality of Olvan, in the Berguedà, of which only the lower part of the nave walls survives. It stands in the former settlement of Minoves, today in ruins, on a small hill at the foot of the riera del Gol, from which it takes the name Sant Martí de Minoves. The territory of Olvan itself, situated beside the Llobregat river, is documented from 905, the year its parish church was consecrated by Bishop Nantigís of Urgell, and it later belonged to the barony of la Portella and, from 1369, to the Pinós family.
