What to see and do in Gaià

Gaià
Village
Gaià is a small municipality in the north of the Bages comarca, in the province of Barcelona, situated on the southern foothills of the Serra de Pinós, next to the Berguedà and on the left bank of the Llobregat. It has 172 inhabitants. The municipal area, mostly wooded with scattered farmhouses, is drained by the Merlès, Cornet and Gaià streams, and has hardly any population centres, the most notable being Galera, near the Llobregat. It preserves the old baroque rectory, now converted into an inn, with its sgraffito façade, the restored Romanesque church of Sant Jordi de Lloberes, and the remains of the termenat castle of Gaià.
Castle of Gaià
Monument
A 10th-century castle documented since 936, of which only wall vestiges survive along with the foundations of five great defensive stretches; on its site the chapel of Santa Àgueda was built, restored and opened in 1986. Excavations in 2002 recovered around a hundred ceramic fragments from Iberian, Roman and medieval occupation.
