Carme
Village
Carme is a municipality in the comarca of l'Anoia, in the province of Barcelona, situated in the heart of the valley of the river Carme, between the sierra de Orpinell and that of Collbàs, with 847 inhabitants. The village, surrounded by forest and set apart from the larger towns, lies about ten kilometres from the comarca's capital, Igualada, and about five from La Pobla de Claramunt and Capellades. It has its own basic services, such as a pharmacy, a bakery or a family doctor. The municipality's first documents date from the end of the 17th century, although its origin is placed towards the end of the Middle Ages, when the Muslim advance through central Catalonia gave rise to a line of fortifications, the frontier castles; l'Anoia is among the comarcas that preserve the most castles from that period.
