Vega de Tera
Village
Vega de Tera is a municipality in the province of Zamora, in the comarca of Benavente y Los Valles, situated on the Camino de Santiago Sanabrés and on the Ruta de la Plata. Besides the eponymous town, where the town hall is located, it groups together the hamlets of Calzada de Tera, Junquera de Tera and Milla de Tera. It retains buildings of rammed earth, cobblestone and tile, among them the church of San Pelayo, with its slender bell-gable. The Tera river passes two hundred metres from the village, and nearby lies the Agavanzal reservoir, with nooks of holm oaks, rockrose and small beaches of clear water. Its origin goes back to the Middle Ages, when it was integrated into the Kingdom of León; in the early modern period it belonged to the lands of the Count of Benavente, and since 1833 it has been part of the province of Zamora. It now has 265 inhabitants.
