What to see and do in Cogeces de Íscar

Cogeces de Íscar
Village
Cogeces de Íscar is a hamlet of about 140 inhabitants in the province of Valladolid, on the right bank of the River Cega, in a valley between two hills, in the Tierra de Pinares and on the border with the province of Segovia, 6 km from Íscar and 15 from Cuéllar. Its surname recalls its former dependency on the lordship of Íscar, and its name may derive from coger (“to gather”), referring to the harvest. The Real Burgalesa and Real Leonesa Oriental drove roads (cañadas) also cross its territory. It preserves the Gothic church of San Martín, with a doorway of saw-tooth archivolts on the south wall, and on its outskirts the old gypsum works lies in ruins.
