What to see and do in La Seca

La Seca
Village
La Seca is a town in the province of Valladolid, in Castilla y León, with 1,015 inhabitants whose economy revolves around wine, protected by the Rueda Designation of Origin; it has numerous wineries, many of them dug out beneath the village itself, among which the Cuatro Rayas cooperative stands out. Its name alludes to the place where felled trees were dried, which is why its coat of arms shows a pine tree and an axe. Among its heritage, the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción stands out. On the third weekend of April it holds the Fiesta del Verdejo, dedicated to the wine of the district, and on 24 January it honours its patroness, the Virgen de la Paz.

Curiosity
Beneath the streets of the village an uncountable number of cellars was dug, which at some points come to be superimposed on two levels. They are the wine-making infrastructure inherited from centuries of domestic production.
The Verdejo Festival
Activity
On the third weekend of April the village devotes its streets to the variety that has made the comarca famous, with tastings and activities around the white wine of the Rueda designation of origin.

Food and drink
The designation, recognised in 1980 and registered in the European Union in 1986, covers 72 municipalities of three provinces on gravelly soils rich in calcium. Verdejo, a native variety, is its hallmark.
