What to see and do in Vizmanos

Vizmanos
Village
Vizmanos is a hamlet in the comarca of Tierras Altas, in the province of Soria, at 1,200 metres of altitude and 40 kilometres from the capital, next to the río Cidacos. It has 31 inhabitants and the settlement of Verguizas. During the Middle Ages it was part of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Yanguas, under the lordship of the Marquis of Aguilar; in the mid-19th century it had barely 40 houses. It preserves two houses with coats of arms and the Gothic church of San Martín, from the 16th century. Its slopes preserve the cultivation terraces that the residents worked up to very high elevations before emigrating, testimony to the harshness of living conditions in these lands. Every second weekend of August it celebrates its patron saint festivals in honour of the Virgen de Valdeayuso.

Nature
At 1,200 metres of altitude, the slopes of the municipal district preserve abandoned cultivation terraces and a dehesa boyal of oaks, the common woodland where the village's plough teams grazed.
