Perosillo
Village
Perosillo is a hamlet in the province of Segovia, one of its least populated municipalities with 21 inhabitants, in a valley surrounded by hills beside the Cerquilla stream, a tributary of the Cega, in the Segovian tierra de pinares. Its name, documented as Pedrosello in 1184, refers to Pedro Ansúrez, charged with resettling the area by order of Alfonso VI after Almanzor's sack at the end of the 10th century. It belonged to the Sexmo de Hontalbilla of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Cuéllar. From that period dates its Romanesque church of Nuestra Señora de Melgar, whose tower also served as a watchtower to guard the livestock and the pine forest, and which stands out for its corbels, unusual in the Romanesque style of the area. It also preserves a two-spout fountain, a trough and a washing place, and the remains of the Potricos flour mill.
