Parada de Arriba
Village
Parada de Arriba is a municipality in the Campo de Salamanca or Campo Charro, made up of the settlements of Alberguería de Valmuza, Carrascal de Pericalvo and Parada de Arriba, with 264 inhabitants across 17.81 km². Founded during the medieval resettlement by the kings of León, it appears documented in 1265 as Parada de Suso, that is, de Arriba (“above”), within the quarter of Baños of the jurisdiction of Salamanca; with the creation of the present-day provinces in 1833 it was placed within that of Salamanca. Because of the number of dairy farmers who made a living selling their cows' milk in the provincial capital, it was popularly known as Parada of the Milkmen. Among its notable residents is the grammarian Benito Martínez Gómez Gayoso (1700-1787).
