What to see and do in Florida de Liébana

Florida de Liébana
Village
Florida de Liébana is a municipality in Salamanca province of around 248 inhabitants, in the Campo de Salamanca district, whose district brings together the settlements of Florida de Liébana, La Florida Extrarradio, Puerto de la Anunciación and Villaselva, on the banks of the river Tormes. Founded during the medieval resettlement by the kings of León, it was called Muelas within the quarter of Baños of the jurisdiction of Salamanca, in the Kingdom of León; it later came to be called La Florida and, from 1641, Florida de Liébana. Already in the 12th century there was a church here, atop a knoll beside the threshing floors, where today the remains of the village church, from the 17th to 19th centuries, and the cemetery are preserved. It had as many as 570 inhabitants around 1950, when its residents supplied the city of Salamanca with fruit and vegetables.

Food and drink
The irrigated meadows beside the Tormes supplied fruit and vegetables to the markets of Salamanca for generations; today maize and sugar beet are still grown in them alongside the holm oak dehesa of the rest of the municipal district.
