What to see and do in Crémenes

Crémenes
Village
Crémenes is a municipality in the Montaña de Riaño, in the province of León, with around 495 inhabitants at 1,003 metres above sea level, part of the Montaña de Riaño y Mampodre regional park and made up of thirteen villages, among them Lois and Argovejo. Crossed by the río Esla, its territory preserves oak and beech woods, with centuries-old sessile oak and beech specimens on Mount El Jardín and Aviao, and above all the Crémenes juniper grove, regarded as one of the westernmost in Europe and of great botanical interest. Among the scrub grow heather, blueberry, broom and cytisus, and among the shrubs, hazels and raspberries. The municipality also preserves eleven Vadinian stelae.

Curiosity
Eleven funerary stelae of the Vadinienses, the pre-Roman people who inhabited the upper Esla, have been located in the municipal district; to these are added the remains of the Roman road that climbed the valley towards Villayandre.
