What to see and do in San Millán de los Caballeros

San Millán de los Caballeros
Village
San Millán de los Caballeros is a locality of about 190 inhabitants at 751 metres above sea level, in the comarca of the Vega de Toral, between the floodplain of the río Esla and the first foothills of the Leonese páramo, next to the old Ruta de la Plata road, today the Autovía Ruta de la Plata. It split off from Toral de los Guzmanes in the mid-19th century. It has a cultural centre and a sports centre, and celebrates three festivals: San Blas on 3 February, San Isidro on 15 May and Santo Millán, the village's patron, on 11 November.
Vicariate of San Millán
Historical milestone
The town gave its name and its seat to this body delegated by the diocese of Oviedo for church judicial matters, sparing the diocesans of the meseta the journey to Asturias. That year the vicarage moved to Villademor de la Vega.
