What to see and do in Regueras de Arriba

Regueras de Arriba
Village
Regueras de Arriba is a municipality of 263 inhabitants in the El Páramo comarca, in the province of León, made up of the eponymous town and Regueras de Abajo, on the left bank of the Órbigo river, which separates it from La Bañeza. It forms part of the extensive Páramo Leonés, where its rises combine with the land irrigated by the Órbigo; for more than forty years the water of the Barrios de Luna reservoir has turned the old high plains into irrigated land for sugar beet, maize and cereals, which completely changed the municipality's economy. The present-day town council arose in the 1857 census, when it split off from Cebrones del Río, on which Regueras had depended until then. In summer its population grows with the return of families who emigrated in the 1960s and 1970s.

Nature
The municipality is one of the tails of the Páramo: its moorland knolls combine with the land watered by the Órbigo, whose left bank forms its boundary with La Bañeza. Irrigation transformed its uplands half a century ago.
Festival of el turista de Regueras de Abajo
Activity
Held at the beginning of August to welcome back those who return to the village on holiday, it rounds off a calendar built around the Holy Trinity, in June, and Nuestra Señora del Rosario, on 7 October.
Separation of Regueras de Arriba
Historical milestone
Until that date its history ran together with that of Cebrones del Río. In the census of that year it already appears as a municipality in its own right, made up of Regueras de Arriba, the capital, and Regueras de Abajo.
