What to see and do in Soto de la Vega

Soto de la Vega
Village
Soto de la Vega is a municipality in the comarca of La Bañeza, in the province of León, with about 1,480 inhabitants at 777 metres of altitude, made up of seven villages of the vega: Alcaidón, Huerga de Garaballes, Oteruelo de la Vega, Requejo de la Vega, Santa Colomba de la Vega, Soto de la Vega and Vecilla de la Vega. Its residents live mainly from agriculture, livestock farming and services. In the hamlet of Santa Colomba de la Vega stands the 14th- and 15th-century church that, for its Mudéjar coffered ceiling, was declared a Monumento Nacional (National Monument, a former Spanish heritage-protection designation) in 1943; after suffering damage from the passage of time and the collapse of a stork's nest, the coffered ceiling was restored in the late 20th century.
