What to see and do in Junta de Traslaloma

Junta de Traslaloma
Village
Junta de Traslaloma is a municipality of the province of Burgos, in Castile and León, part of the Las Merindades comarca, at the western end of the Valle de Losa, some 100 km from the provincial capital; the mountains of La Peña separate it to the north from the Valle de Mena and to the west from the Merindad de Montija. Made up of nine villages and 118 inhabitants, it is the heir of one of the six juntas into which the old Merindad de Losa was divided, a royal jurisdiction with a pedáneo councillor whose seat was Castrobarto; in 1887 it also absorbed Villalacre and Villaventín, from the former municipality of Alforados de Losa. Its square-plan manor houses, with four-sided roofs and sun galleries, define the hamlets beneath the mountains of La Peña, and its religious buildings preserve Romanesque and Gothic elements.

Curiosity
The nine villages of this junta preserve mountain mansions of square plan, hipped roof and thick rubble masonry walls, the model of dwelling that defines the valley of Losa facing the Montes de la Peña.
