What to see and do in Alfoz de Bricia

Alfoz de Bricia
Village
Alfoz de Bricia is a municipality of the province of Burgos, in the Las Merindades comarca, which juts like a peninsula into the lands of Cantabria, with 68 inhabitants and its seat at Barrio de Bricia. Its relief combines a flat eastern zone, typical of the Castilian plateau, with a western area of steep little valleys covered in holm oaks, oaks and beeches, where livestock farming is practised. It contains part of Monte Hijedo, the largest beech forest in the north of the province, as well as part of the Montes de Carrales. The seasonal population far exceeds the permanent one. The village preserves early medieval rock-cut hermitages, most notably that of Presillas de Bricia, and a mountain vernacular architecture of thick rubblework walls and continuous wooden sun galleries.

Monument
A church carved into the rock by early medieval communities in the locality of Presillas, one of the rock hermitages that dot the north of Burgos and evidence of the settlement earlier than the Castilian county.
