Bañuelos de Bureba
Village
Bañuelos de Bureba is a village in the Burgos comarca of La Bureba, situated east of Briviesca on the BU-710 road, with 32 inhabitants in a municipal area of 15.44 km² given over to cereals. It was a crown town in the cuadrilla de Prádano, one of the seven into which the Merindad de Bureba was divided, and when the Ancien Régime fell it became a constitutional municipality with 207 residents, a figure that today does not even reach a sixth of that. Baltasar Temiño de Bañuelos, one of the four founders of the Mexican city of Zacatecas in 1548, came from here, and here, between 1934 and 1936, the teacher Antoni Benaiges practised, promoting Freinet's pedagogical techniques at the village school.
