Rubena
Village
Rubena is a municipality in the Alfoz de Burgos district, situated on the gentle slope that rises from the capital to the Alto de la Brújula, only 13 kilometres away. It takes its name from the modest but treacherous river Vena, which forms a small valley where the village sits, at 913 metres above sea level. Under the Ancien Régime it had shared jurisdiction, partly abbatial, dependent on the Benedictine Monastery of Oña, and partly royal, with a local mayor (alcalde pedáneo). In 2015 it was one of the localities included in the inventory Spain submitted to Unesco for the extension of the Camino de Santiago to the Caminos del Norte, within the French Way. It has 207 inhabitants and its territory is affected by the plan for the large Burgos-Riopico logistics and industrial area.
