Palacios de Goda
Village
Palacios de Goda is a town of 396 inhabitants in the comarca of La Moraña, in the province of Ávila, situated at 818 metres above sea level. It preserves the church of San Juan Bautista, declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), and the hermitage of Nuestra Señora la Virgen de la Fons Griega, patroness of the village, in whose honour about four days of festivities are held in early September, with costumes, floats and greyhound races. On 25 April, the feast of San Marcos, residents bring the Virgin ribbons tied with rosquillas (ring-shaped pastries) for children born in the past year, and afterwards the rosquillas, lambs, cockerels and cheeses offered are auctioned off. On 2 July the Virgen del Rosario is also celebrated, known here as la Morenita or la Virgen de los Segadores.
