Collado de Contreras
Village
Collado de Contreras is a town in La Moraña, in the province of Ávila, with about 147 inhabitants, whose two festivals mark the wheat cycle: that of Nuestra Señora de las Cuatro Calzadas, in May, when the harvest can be foretold, and that of los Dolores, at the end of August, when it has already been gathered in. Repopulated between the 11th and 13th centuries by Mozarabs and Muladies after the frontier's advance to the Tajo, it was in the Middle Ages one of the most prosperous settlements in the district. It reached its greatest splendour at the end of the 15th century, when the 1591 census attributed to it 249 residents, around 1,200 inhabitants, and its church was built, today dedicated to Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, one of the finest in the province along with that of Villatoro.
