Muñomer del Peco
Village
Muñomer del Peco is a village in the comarca of La Moraña, in the province of Ávila, situated at 895 metres above sea level. It has about 113 inhabitants who live mainly from agriculture and livestock farming. Of medieval origin and probable Basque foundation, it is documented for the first time in 1250, under the name Muñomer, as part of the ecclesiastical chapter of La Moraña; it was always a crown-owned (realengo) place under the jurisdiction of Ávila. Its main monument is the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, from the 16th century, built in masonry and brick, with a polygonal apse and a bell-gable; it holds a major altarpiece dedicated to the Virgin attributed to Blas Hernández, a disciple of Vasco de la Zarza. On the outskirts stands the hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Campo, with an 18th-century altarpiece.
